The Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Sciences

Program philosophy

The main philosophy of compiling this curriculum is to train expert human resources in the field of laboratory sciences based on defined and specific professional duties in society in a way that includes the basic principles of education and training, which includes personality development, increasing thinking power and professional competence, and creating continuous learning skills in graduates to provide desirable laboratory services.

Mission of the Educational Program in Training Human Resources

The main mission of the Laboratory Sciences major is to train individuals who can perform various tests on blood or other body fluids and tissues in clinical laboratories of hospitals and health centers with the specialized knowledge they have learned and by using complex electronic devices and numerous methods.

The information and results obtained from these tests help the doctor in diagnosis of diseases, the treatment process, and maintaining the health of the community. Since this field is constantly changing and developing, graduates of this field must be trained in a way that they have sufficient knowledge and skills to adapt to new technologies.

The educational program's outlook for human resource training

Over the past few decades, clinical and health laboratories have transformed from a small sector with a few simple devices and traditional methods of chemical physics into large centers with highly advanced equipment and numerous branches. These dramatic and rapid changes require employees who, in addition to being equipped with modern knowledge, are able to use complex electronic and computer equipment and devices and perform new diagnostic and molecular methods. Therefore, the job market outlook for skilled and proficient laboratory science experts is very clear and visible in the current and future context of developing clinical and health laboratories and factories and companies producing and distributing laboratory materials and equipment.

General Objectives

The goal of the Bachelor of Laboratory Science educational program is to train students to provide laboratory services. In this program, students are given the necessary general and specialized training so that, in addition to having an adequate understanding of man, the culture that governs him and his surrounding environment, they can also perform basic and routine tests in health and clinical laboratories.

Goals for 2025

  • Attracting faculty members
  • Setting up a subspecialty anemia clinic
  • Increasing the number of research papers published by the department’s faculty members and students
  • Increasing the quality of education
  • Increasing the participation of department professors in faculty empowerment workshops
  • Expanding the workshops held by the department’s professors
  • Expanding the educational seminars held by the department’s professors

The role of graduates

In addition to the personality development and scientific thinking that undergraduate students of the Laboratory Sciences program acquire during their education, they will be able to perform clinical research and related services in the following centers as experts:

1- Clinical laboratories of public and private hospitals

2- Laboratories of health centers

3- Private medical diagnostic laboratories

4- Research and educational institutes and centers

5- Factories producing laboratory equipment and materials

6- Companies distributing biological and laboratory products

7- Forensic medicine laboratories

8- Blood transfusion organization laboratories.

Graduates' professional duties

Laboratory science experts will employ various types of equipment and laboratory methods to perform laboratory services. These methods include microscopic studies, molecular detection methods, various chemical and immunological analysis methods, and bacteriological identification.

These individuals not only perform various tests, but also ensure the importance and validity of the data obtained by repeating the tests and using various quality control methods and consulting with physicians and other health care personnel. The supervision of laboratory science experts is the responsibility of these individuals.

Program implementation strategies

The undergraduate curriculum of the Laboratory Science program has been developed in such a way that it has the following strategies:

1- To meet the clinical laboratory services needed by the community.

2- To provide the laboratory services needed by the country's health centers that are necessary for prevention and health maintenance.

3- To use new principles and techniques of teaching and learning in the theoretical-practical field and internship courses.

4- Graduates should be able to cover the laboratory services needed by society in various educational, research, service, and production fields.

5- Given the rapid and continuous changes in laboratory methods, graduates of this field should have the ability to adapt to new technologies.
